Ci sono 3 fasi nella vita degli Yob. Durante la prima, conclusasi con lo scioglimento della band del 2006, la musica era un torrente (di lava) in piena, con la potenza e la portata di una cascata senza alcun senso della misura. Straripava continuamente, modificando il paesaggio grazie ad una personalità colossale. Dopo essersi nascosto nel sottosuolo per 2 anni, quando il fiume è riapparso in superficie ha iniziato a scorrere come un serpente, compiendo ampie e sinuose curve, alla ricerca di un tempio dalla spiritualità magnetica, nascosto nel fitto della giungla e finalmente raggiunto con il capolavoro Clearing the Path to Ascend. Questa seconda fase è stata un percorso tortuoso che ha assorbito energia dall’ambiente circostante, e dalle esperienze artistiche di Mike Scheidt (soliste, ma anche con i Middian e i Vhöl). La terza fase inizia nel gennaio 2017, quando Mike viene ricoverato per una grave forma di diverticolite intestinale. Il primo frutto di questa nuova fase è Our Raw Heart. Il fiume ha raggiunto il mare, e vi sfocia lento con un ampio delta. Non mancano le improvvise e devastanti piene del passato (Original Face), ma nel flusso magmatico di distorsione c’è una ricerca melodica che si nutre di luce nuova, decisamente più emotiva (Beauty in Falling Leaves, Our Raw Heart). Scavarsi un alveo nel dolore puro (The Screen), e riuscire a sfociare nell’oceano (Our Raw Heart). Dopo un’esperienza che lo ha portato ad un passo dalla morte, Mike riversa nella musica degli Yob la grande pace di chi si affaccia in un regno nel quale non era mai stato (o, più precisamente, nel quale non si era mai accorto di vivere) per assorbire ogni nuova esperienza con inedita intensità. Il suo senso di commossa meraviglia di fronte alla vita è ciò che rende Our Raw Heart un’opera tanto intensa e personale da ricollegare la musica degli Yob alla parte più profonda della sfera umana, dopo aver toccato la pura trascendenza con Clearing the Path to Ascend.

Yob – Our Raw Heart

There are 3 phases in Yob's life. During the first one, ended in 2006 with their disbandment, the music was a flood (of lava) with the power and flow rate of a waterfall without any sense of measure. It continually overflowed, changing the landscape thanks to its colossal personality. After hiding in the underground for 2 years, when the river reappeared on the surface it began to flow like a snake, making wide and sinuous curves, looking for a temple with magnetic spirituality, hidden in the thick of the jungle and finally reached with the masterpiece Clearing the Path to Ascend. This second phase was a tortuous path that absorbed energy from the surrounding environment and from Mike Scheidt's artistic experiences (soloists, but also with Middian and Vhöl). The third phase begins in January 2017, when Mike is hospitalized for a severe form of intestinal diverticulitis. The first fruit of this new phase is Our Raw Heart. The river has reached the sea, and it slowly flows into it with a wide delta. There are still the sudden devastating floods of the past (Original Face), but in the magmatic flow of distortion there is a melodic research that feeds on new - definitely more emotional - light (Beauty in Falling Leaves, Our Raw Heart). Digging a riverbed in pure pain (The Screen) and succeeding in flowing into the ocean (Our Raw Heart). After an experience that led him to a step away from death, Mike pours into Yob's music the great peace of the one who look in a kingdom in which he had never been (or, more precisely, in which he had never realized he was living into) to absorb each new experience with unprecedented intensity. His sense of emotional wonder before life is what makes Our Raw Heart so intense and personal that it reconnects Yob's music to the deepest part of the human sphere, after having touched the pure transcendence with Clearing the Path to Ascend.
