La Piramide di Sangue + Le Porte non Aperte + Sulfur (in acustico) – 04.03.2016 – No Cage (Prato)
Se il No Cage ospita spesso alcuni dei migliori gruppi underground in circolazione, un motivo ci deve essere – e sono sicura che non è solo l’ottimo buffet vegan ad inizio serata! L’aspetto spoglio dello stanzone “da festa delle medie” e il piccolo palco in fondo alla sala (i 7 de La Piramide di Sangue devono aver assoldato uno stratega di Tetris per studiare la loro disposizione!) sono la classica copertina da non considerare per valutare il libro: i suoni delle band escono benissimo e l’impatto del live c’è tutto!
La serata è aperta da una delegazione ridotta dei Sulfur - Asmodeus e Dyonisos, rispettivamente chitarrista e cantante della band fiorentina – che per l’occasione presenta un set “acustico” (la chitarra è comunque quella elettrica), circondata dalle luci soffuse delle candele. In questa versione, il loro doom metal sepolcrale assume quasi le forme di un rito esoterico, e fluttua liberamente al di là della forma canzone. Gli arpeggi di chitarra evocano profondità abissali dalle quali si affaccia l’intensa e versatile voce di Dyonisos. Ancor di più delle innegabili doti tecniche del duo, quello che colpisce è l’atmosfera della loro musica, tanto tetra quanto onirica. Molto di più di un esperimento, questa versione dei Sulfur merita davvero di essere approfondita!
Segue il rock progressivo de Le Porte non Aperte. Chiaramente ispirato ai classici del prog anni ’70 (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso in primis), non lascia particolarmente il segno a causa di canzoni un po’ troppo frammentarie e melodie poco coinvolgenti.
Quando ormai siamo quasi all’una di notte, La Piramide di Sangue trasfigura il No Cage in un deserto sabbioso dominato dalle ombre di un mondo antico. L’ipnotica forza ritmica, quasi tribale, della sinergia di batteria, due bassi e percussioni varie, e la potenza onirico-esoterica delle melodie del clarinetto di Stefano Isaia (aka Gianni Giublena Rosacroce) evocano un mondo parallelo tanto affascinante quanto stordente. Aiutati anche da proiezioni a tema principalmente egizio, ci si ritrova immersi in atmosfere mediorientali, tra psichedelia e kraut rock, fra dune di ispirazione etnica e granelli di sabbia free jazz e noise. Se i brani catturano già su vinile, la dimensione live amplifica il loro magnetismo. E se a questo si aggiunge la bravura di tutti e sette i musicisti, il risultato è un concerto davvero notevole: un’esperienza che nessun amante di certe sonorità dovrebbe permettersi di perdere!

There is a reason why No Cage is the venue chosen by many really interesting undergroung bands – and for sure this is not due to the tasty vegan buffet! The bare “highschool-party-hall” look and the small stage at the end of the lounge (the 7 members of La Piramide di Sangue had to engage a Tetris strategist to get their arrangement on stage) are the classical cover which can not be considered in order to judge the book: sounds are great as much as the live impact!
A reduced delegation of Sulfur – Asmodeus and Dyonisos, respectively guitarist and singer of the band from Florence – opens the evening with an “acoustic” set (guitar is electric, anyway), surrounded by the dim light of candles. In this version, their sepulchral doom metal becomes a sort of esoteric ritual, freely floating beyond the classic song structure. Guitar arpeggios evoke abyssal dephts from which intense, versatile Dyonisos’ voice emerges. Even more than the undoubted technical qualities of the duo, the atmospher of their music – as much gloomy as dreamlike – is what really impresses the listener. Far from being a mere “experiment”, this new vest of Sulfur deserves further consideration!
Then the progressive rock of Le Porte non Aperte. Clearly ispired by the big names of 70s prog (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso above all), they are not too much impressive – maybe because of too fragmented song and not so engaging melodies.
When it is almost one o’clock a.m., La Piramide di Sangue transfigures No Cage in a dusty desert dominated by the shadows of an ancient world. The hypnotic, almost tribal, rhythmic force of the synergy of drums, two basses and many different percussions, and the oneiric-esoteric power of the melodies of Stefano Isaia’s (aka Gianni Giublena Rosacroce) clarinet evoke a parallel world – as much fascinating as stunning. Also thanks to the video projections focused on Egyptian themes, you find yourself immersed in Middle Eastern atmosphere, halfway between psychedelia and kraut-rock, amongst dunes of ethnic inspiration and sand grains of free jazz and noise. If their songs captivate the listener on vinyl, live dimension amplifies their magnetism. And if you add to this the talent of the 7 musicians, the result is a really amazing concert: an experience that no lover of these sounds should ever miss!
