Ufomammut + Black Rainbows - Rural Rock Days - Day 2 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

Ufomammut + Black Rainbows - Rural Rock Days - Day 2 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

Ufomammut + Black Rainbows - Rural Rock Days - Day 2 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

A friend in need is a friend indeed. And after ASG rip-off just a few days before the event, Rural Rock Days needs a helping hand. To offer it are Ufomammut, who come from this land and who grew up in this scene. Together with them, to face the expected storm, another Italian band: Black Rainbows. The bad weather forecasts have discouraged most of tonight's potential attendees, but Cascina Bellaria covered stage (even more protective than the one of the previous evening) offers shelter to an audience that, although not very numerous, proves to be extremely warm and passionate.

Black Rainbows iperfuzzy adrenaline-filled stoner contributes to tonight's party atmosphere. With a set full of groove and energy, with ample space/psychedelic digressions, the Romans exalt and confirm how unjustly they are underestimated by much of the Italian rock audience (certainly not by those who were present tonight!).

If there is a band that over the years has rightly managed to reap what it has sown, that is called Ufomammut. And even tonight, after a 20-year career, finally universally recognized as one of the most important in the heavy psych scene, the band from Tortona puts its heart and soul in this gig in front of a few friends. In some ways the emotional impact of such an intimate concert is even more intense than that generated on a huge stage, possibly shared with bands such Yob and Neurosis. At the end of the sonic storm generated by the trio, we are stunned by how much this music that seems to come from another universe, can sound warm, human, alive.

Nashville Pussy + Sacri Monti - Rural Rock Days - Day 1 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

Nashville Pussy + Sacri Monti - Rural Rock Days - Day 1 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

Lemmy li aveva definiti l’ultima grande rock n’roll band d’America, serve altro?

Nashville Pussy + Sacri Monti - Rural Rock Day 1 - Cascina Bellaria Rural Music Club! (Sezzadio, AL)

Rurality means working hard, with honesty, and being able to organize to deal with (meteorological, but not only!) unexpected events. This is why I trust the festival organized by Cascina Bellaria right from the start. It will not be a band ripping-off the event a few days before it, or the not really encouraging weather forecasts, to stop a festival with a genuine spirit like this.

Sacri Monti are the first to go on stage. Stage that this time gives shelter to musicians, precisely because of the possible storm. But lightnings are kept at a safe distance thanks to the psychedelic hard rock of the San Diego band. The continuous chasing of solos and the spirals of reverberations stun even more than the craft beer filling the brains of audience. Yet nobody ever loses orientation, because songs run straight and solid, following dynamics and crescendos on the edge of the most robust prog. I am pleasantly surprised by this unexpected connection between the sun of the Californian beaches and the fog of early 70s hard prog (Captain Beyond, High Tide, just to name a couple of bands), the latter being not so evident in the band's debut album. Perhaps part of the credit goes to the Piedmontese hills lit by a strange summer light seeping in through the black clouds. Great concert!

After Sacri Monti checked shirts and their worn attitude so much reminiscent of early 90s Seattle, we are catapulted into the most exhibitionist 80s thanks to Nashville Pussy. But that decade cock rock is turned upside down into a pussy rock that is as much excessive as it is self-deprecating and funny. The four exalt - yet at the same time desecrate - the myth of rock n roll (boobs in the wind and whiskey drunk from the hat, but also few hair and decidedly reinforced bottoms exhibited with pride) bringing it back to its primitive visceral nature. Musically uncontainable, they spit out alcohol and energy through their riffs, and you cannot but let yourself get carried away, even when the first raindrops begin to fall. Their music is sweaty and concrete, perfect for turning the evening into a party. Lemmy said they were America's last great rock'n'roll band, need anything else?
