Disintegrate Your Ignorance Fest – Day 2

Il Disintegrate Your Ignorance Fest non ha un lato particolarmente luminoso, ma di certo ne ha uno particolarmente oscuro. Si manifesta il secondo giorno di festival, sul Benicio’s Stage, il minuscolo palco dedicato alle sonorità più sperimentali. Dopo la tempesta (in senso letterale!) abbattutasi il giorno precedente, l’area esterna torna ad essere completamente funzionante (sia il palco principale – la Disintegrate Arena - sia quello piccolo) grazie all’incredibile lavoro degli organizzatori dell’evento.
Ore 18:00. Con un sole ancora alto, inizia la performance di Mai Mai Mai. Incappucciato, il musicista calabrese dà vita ad un magma di rumori, suoni ambientali ed elettronica in disfacimento, che con il passare dei minuti assume la forma di ossessive ripetizioni cosmiche. Straniante e oppressivo, il suo è un antipasto dell’energia nera che verrà liberata dalle altre tre bands che suoneranno sul Benicio’s Stage.
Nell’arena principale si respira un’atmosfera completamente diversa. I BRUUNO propongono un punk-hardcore tirato, ma al tempo stesso melodico, fatto di accordi dissonanti e suoni più bassi e pieni. Il loro è un set più “divertente e divertito” di quelli che caratterizzano il resto della serata, in cui l’impatto delle canzoni è leggermente penalizzato da un volume un po’ troppo alto della voce.
Non c’è alcuna sensazione di divertimento, invece, nella musica evocata dai fiorentini Hate & Merda sul Benicio’s Stage. L’unico piacere provato dal duo incappucciato (condiviso anche dal loro special guest Alessandro Vagnoni) è il sadico violentare chitarra e batteria, generando uno sludge metal sporco, malvagio ed efferato. Muri di suono in puro stile drone si alternano con assalti di devastante post hardcore. E nell’apparente caos i due carnefici controllano il perfetto fluire di continue cascate di dissonanze e feedback. Straordinari.
Dopo la perversione sonora di questo duo, l’hardcore sporcato di metal degli Slander (sul palco della Disintegrate Arena) è paradossalmente musica per pulirsi le orecchie. Poderosi e possenti, in 20 minuti sparano dritta in faccia una furia classicamente hardcore, senza disdegnare una forza non lontana dal metal di matrice southern di Pantera e Down.
Un altro duo delizia i palati perversi del pubblico dell’angolo sperimentale: i Bologna Violenta. La loro passione per gli angoli più neri della cronaca italiana e per quelli più grotteschi e aberranti del cinema di genere “alla Mondo movie maniera” si manifesta in melodie cinematografiche destrutturate in devastanti frammenti grindcore. Il martello pneumatico della batteria di Alessandro Vagnoni è perfetto complemento della follia compositiva – nonché della direzione d’orchestra – di Nicola Manzan. Con una scaletta incentrata sull’ultimo splendido album (Discordia), l’impatto sonoro dei Bologna Violenta è ancora una volta assolutamente travolgente e destabilizzante.
Davanti al Benicio’s Stage si raduna infine una folla numerosa per l’ultimo duo: gli OvO. La partenza è più soffusa e velata rispetto a quella del devastante concerto a Prato di qualche mese fa, ma non per questo meno disturbante. I rantoli della voce e gli stridori della chitarra di Stefania Pedretti si sfibrano negli spazi costruiti dalle ritmiche essenziali di Bruno Dorella, e circa a metà concerto si inizia ad assaporare appieno la malignità e la depravazione della loro musica, grazie a suoni e volumi tagliati su misura per loro e capaci di erigere quel muro di suono che in parte era mancato all’inizio.
Gli OvO sono il gran finale di una giornata dedicata ai suoni meno ortodossi e maggiormente devianti dell’underground italiano. Proprio per questo il loro show rappresenta per noi l’ultimo atto di questo festival. Mentre sul palco principale si inseguono le rime hip hop di DSA Commando e Kaos One & DJ Craim, ci rifugiamo in quello che il giorno precedente era stato il palco dei Converge, e che ora è diventato “sala ristorante”, per mangiarci una pizza e godere della bella atmosfera che si respira tra i partecipanti. Atmosfera che - oltre alla qualità della musica - è stata l’arma in più di questo splendido festival.

Disintegrate Your Ignorance Fest hasn’t got a particularly bright side, yet for sure it has got a particularly dark one. This side reveals itself on the second day of festival, on Benicio’s Stage - the tiny stage dedicated to the most experimental sounds. After the storm of the previous day, the outdoor area becomes fully functional (both the main stage - the Disintegrate Arena - and the small one) thanks to the incredible work of the event organizers.
It’s 6:00 p.m. The sun is still high in the sky and Mai Mai Mai begins his performance. Hooded, the Calabrian musician creates a magma of noises, ambient sounds and electronic in decay, that with every passing minute takes the form of cosmic obsessive repetitions. Alienating and oppressive, his show is a sort of appetizer of the black energy that will be freed from the other three bands that will be playing on Benicio's Stage.
In the main arena the atmosphere is completely different. BRUUNO play a groovy – at the same time melodic – punk-hardcore, made of dissonant chords and lower full sounds. Their set is a more "funny and amused" of those characterizing the rest of the evening, with the impact of their songs slightly penalized by a bit too high volume of the voice.
On the contrary, there is no feeling of fun in the music evoked by Hate & Merda (from Florence) on Benicio's Stage. The only pleasure experienced by the hooded duo (also shared by their special guest Alessandro Vagnoni) is the sadistic raping of guitar and drums, creating a dirty, wicked and brutal sludge metal. Walls of sound in pure drone style alternate with devastating post hardcore assaults. And in the apparent chaos the two executioners control the perfect flow of continuous falls of dissonances and feedbacks. Amazing.
After the sonic perversion of this duo, Slander metal-veined hardcore (on the stage of the Disintegrate Arena) is paradoxically music to clean the ears. Powerful and mighty, in only 20 minutes they shoot straight in the face of the listener a classically hardcore fury, without disdaining a strength not far from Pantera and Down southern metal.
Another duo delights the perverse palate of the experimental angle audience: Bologna Violenta. Their passion for the blackest corners of Italian chronicles and for the most grotesque aberrant side of "à la Mondo movie" cinema manifests itself in sort of film melodies destabilized by devastating grindcore fragments. The jackhammer of Alessandro Vagnoni drums is the perfect complement to Nicola Manzan compositional madness – as well as to his orchestral conduction. With a set list focused on the latest superb album (Discordia), Bologna Violenta sonic impact is once again absolutely overwhelming and destabilizing.
Finally a huge crowd gathers in front of the Benicio’s Stage for the last duo: OvO. Their attack is more suffused and veiled than that of their devastating concert in Prato a few months ago, but no less disturbing. Stefania Pedretti gasps of voice and howls of guitar wear themselves out through the spaces built by Bruno Dorella essential rhythms. At about half concert we start to fully experience the malice and depravity of their music, through sounds and volumes tailored to them and capable of erecting the wall of sound partly lacking at the beginning of their show.
OvO are the grand finale of a day dedicated to the less orthodox and more deviant sounds of the Italian underground. Precisely for this reason their show is for us the last act of this festival. While on the main stage DSA Commando e Kaos One & DJ Craim perform their hip hop rhymes, we go into what was Converge stage the day before and now has become a “dining room”, to have a pizza and continue to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere among the participants. Indeed, in addition to the quality of the music, the great atmosphere was the secret weapon of this wonderful festival.
