Come è stato possibil­e concepire questo in­credibile disco thras­h metal in un’epoca d­iversa dagli anni 80?­ Serve un’astronave i­n grado di viaggiare ­ad una velocità tale ­da piegare lo spazio ­tempo, proiettandosi ­nell’epoca d’oro di  j­eans attillati, scarp­e da basket e franget­te, e al tempo stesso­ in un futuro ancora ­sconosciuto. E’ evide­nte che i Vektor ne p­ossiedono una parcheg­giata in sala prove: altrimenti sarebbe in­concepibile un disco ­come Terminal Redux. ­Puro thrash metal pro­gressivo, in cui il t­ermine progressivo no­n significa solo comp­osizioni dalla strutt­ura complicatissima e­ costantemente cangia­nte, ma anche - e sop­rattutto - desiderio ­di ricerca (sia melod­ica che ritmica). Dim­inuito il livello di ­ferocia dei due splen­didi dischi precedent­i, i quattro cowboys ­spaziali originari de­ll’Arizona (ma da qua­lche tempo con base a Phila­delphia) si avventura­no in un pianeta ines­plorato, in cui le sp­irali ipnotiche dei  C­ynic di Traced in Air­ si innestano alla pe­rfezione sulle archit­etture dei Voivod più­ frenetici, acceleran­do e decelerando con una fluid­ità e una naturalezza­ degna di una band pr­og degli anni 70 (non­ è un caso se si perc­episcono sottili rifl­essi di Rush e Genesi­s). Perdersi completa­mente sotto una piogg­ia di fraseggi di chi­tarra, o dentro apert­ure dal fascino dell’­abisso profondo: ques­ta è "l’Odissea nello­ Spazio" concepita da­i Vektor.

Vektor - Terminal Redux

How was it possible to conceive such an incredible thrash metal album out of the 80s? You need a spaceship capable of traveling at a speed such as to bend space - time,  projecting itself both into the golden age of skinny jeans, basketball sneakers and fringes and into a still unknown future. It is clear that Vektor own such a spaceship and it is parked in their rehearsal room: otherwise you would not be able to think of an album such as Terminal Redux is. Pure progressive thrash metal. And here "progressive" does not only mean songs with ultra-complex constantly changing structure: it also - and mostly - means desire of (both melodic and rhythmic) research. Decreased the level of ferocity of the last two amazing  albums, the four space cowboys (from Arizona, but now based in Philadelphia) venture into an unexplored planet in which Cynic (Traced in Air) hypnotic spirals perfectly mix together with the most frenzied Voivod architectures, accelerating and decelerating with the same fluidity and easiness of a 70s prog band (indeed you can feel subtle reflections and hints of Rush and Genesis). Completely get lost under a rain of guitar phrasings or into openings with the fascination of the deepest abyss: this is the "Space Odissey" conceived by Vektor.

Vektor + Angelus Apatrida – 27/11/2015 - Exenzia Rock Club (Prato)

Nell’arco di 10 giorni ci troviamo di fronte prima i padri e poi i figli del thrash metal di ispirazione fantascientifica: Voivod e Vektor. Dopo l’ottimo concerto dei canadesi, i Vektor si dimostrano degni eredi, evidenziando inoltre una forte personalità.

Prima che i Vektor salgano sul palco dell’Exenzia è il turno degli Angelus Apatrida. La band spagnola ci sbatte in faccia un travolgente thrash metal old school dall’energia incontenibile. Trascinanti come gli Slayer più furiosi, divertenti come gli Anthrax più ubriachi, gli spagnoli suonano musica di genere, senza però mai risultare scontati. Tecnicamente impeccabili (mostruoso l’assalto della sezione ritmica, cosi come la ricercatezza degli assoli), gli Angelus Apatrida inducono headbanging come ai vecchi tempi in tutti gli appassionati del thrash metal più autentico. Una scoperta interessantissima!

I Vektor sono accolti da un pubblico poco numeroso ma caldissimo, confermando lo status di culto della band, considerata tra le realtà metal underground più interessanti degli ultimi tempi. Coadiuvati da suoni eccezionali, i Vektor, dopo un breve arpeggio spaziale, partono alla velocità della luce verso il Cosmo. L’universo nel quale ci conducono è contorto, labirintico, surreale, governato da fredde macchine tecnologiche che sembrano provenire da un assurdo sogno retro-futurista. Siamo in un racconto di fantascienza di serie B degli anni 50/60, immaginando un futuro che mai si realizzerà. Il groove forsennato di Blake Anderson (il cui tocco moderno, ispirato alle rullate di batteristi come Allen Blickle dei Baroness suona però 80s esattamente come tutti gli altri membri della band) dona dinamismo inarrestabile ed energia ad una musica tecnica e complessa, facendola risultare talmente esaltante, fantasiosa e colorata da sembrare immediata. I discepoli hanno dimostrato di essere pronti per prendere dai maestri lo scettro del regno del thrash metal cosmico!

Vektor + Angelus Apatrida – 11/27/2015 - Exenzia Rock Club (Prato)

In 10 days we are facing fathers and sons of sci-fi thrash metal: Voivod and Vektor. After the great concert of the Canadian band, Vektor prove to be their worthy heirs, showing also a strong personality.

Before Vektor take control of the Exenzia stage, it’s the moment of Angelus Apatrida. The Spanish band slams onto our faces a passionate old school thrash metal with an uncontainable energy. Enthralling as the most furious Slayer side, amusing as the drunkest Anthrax side, the Spanish combo plays a classic - yet never predictable! - thrash metal music. Technically impeccable (monstrous is the rhythmic session assault, and so it is the solos refinement), Angelus Apatrida induce headbanging in every authentic thrash metal passionate as in the golden era of this genre. Amazing discovery!

Vektor are greeted by the audience - small in numbers, but definetely really enthusiastic! - confirming the cult status of the band: a combo considered as one of the most interesting metal act in the underground. Enhanced by exceptional sounds, Vektor - after a brief spatial arpeggio - take off at the speed of light, direction Cosmos. The universe in which we are led is twisted, mazy, surreal, ruled by cold technological machines that appear to come from an absurd retro-futuristic dream. We are in a B series sci-fi story of the fifties, imagining a future that will never be realized.  Frenetic Blake Anderson groove (whose modern drumming technique, inspired by musicians such as Allen Blickle of Baroness, is anyway 80s inspired as the stylistic approach of all the other members of the band), donate unrestrainable dynamism and energy to such a technical and complex music, making it so exciting, imaginative and colourful to result almost immediate. Disciples demonstrated to be ready to take the reign of cosmic thrash metal from the hands of its own masters!
