E’ ormai tradizione consolidata quella di prepararsi alla partenza per un festival con un concerto di riscaldamento. Anche stavolta, ad una settimana esatta dal Desertfest Antwerp, entriamo nel mood stoner/doom con un concerto direttamente a domicilio.

I The Well ci preparano un aperitivo a base di riff sulfurei orgogliosamente ispirati ai primi Black Sabbath, e ce lo servono nell’intima e buia saletta dell’Albatross. Il cocktail è puro estratto di nebbia, campane a morto e cimiteri in abbandono, e riesce a trasformare il locale in una cripta umida e inquietante. Un ingrediente segreto direttamente dall'antico Egitto (lo stesso utilizzato dai Lucifer, probabilmente) rende le melodie oblique, e ben presto la catacomba si trasforma nel sotterraneo di una piramide infestata da una maledizione. L’intreccio di voci (maschile e femminile), affogato in un mare di echi e riverberi, rende lisergico l’aperitivo, ma i riff compatti e il gran tiro del trio di Austin mantengono la serata su livelli di energia sempre elevatissimi.

Divertente ed elettrizzante, questo cocktail è perfetto in vista della cena che ci aspetta ad Anversa (sul cui palco ritroveremo anche i The Well). Ora che abbiamo stuzzicato l’appetito siamo pronti per l’abbuffata!

It is now a well-established tradition to get ready for a festival with a warm-up concert. Also this time, exactly a week before Desertfest Antwerp, we enter into the stoner/doom mood with a concert directly at home. The Well prepare an aperitif based on sulfur riffs proudly inspired by the first Black Sabbath, and they serve it in the intimate and dark Albatross. The cocktail is a pure extract of mist, death knell and abandoned cemeteries, and it turns the venue into a damp disturbing crypt. A secret ingredient directly from ancient Egypt (maybe the same used by Lucifer) makes melodies oblique, and soon the catacomb is transformed into the basement of a pyramid infested with a curse. Drowned in a sea of echoes and reverberations, the interweaving of (male and female) voices makes the aperitif lysergic, but the compact riffs and great groove of the Austin trio keep the evening on very high levels of energy.

Funny and exciting, this cocktail is perfect in view of the dinner that awaits us in Antwerp (on whose stage we will also find The Well). Now that we have whetted our appetite, we are ready for the blowout!
