Bizzarro davvero immaginarsi un rancho nella macchia mediterranea che avvolge le colline livornesi. Una fattoria ad un passo dal frastuono della città, isolata in mezzo a fitti cespugli di ginepro e ginestra. Io mi immagino che la musica dei Rancho Bizzarro provenga da un posto simile. Mi immagino jam session rilassate, allungate da alcolici a base di piante locali e nuvole di fumo a base di piante importate. Perché se il loro desert rock è importato dal Rancho più famoso della scena stoner californiana (quello de la Luna), negli intrecci strumentali della band è presente anche una componente indigena. Oltre ai rocciosi riff stoner e alle polverose dilatazioni psichedeliche, tipicamente americane, nelle fluide strutture dei sette pezzi del loro disco d’esordio ci sono il vento caldo di Scirocco e la sabbia del mare. Osservare il sole rosso che tramonta sul mare nostrum non sarà come guardare un crepuscolo tra i cactus nel deserto del Mojave, ma i Rancho Bizzarro ci aiutano ad avvicinare le due esperienze.

Rancho Bizzarro – Rancho Bizzarro

Truly bizzarre to imagine a ranch in the middle of the Mediterranean scrub surrounding Livorno countryside and hills. A farm one step away from the hubbub of the city, isolated among dense juniper and broom bushes. I imagine that Rancho Bizzarro music comes from such a place. I imagine relaxed jam sessions, dilated by alcohol made with local plants and clouds of smoke from imported plants. Because if their desert rock is imported from the most famous Rancho of the Californian stoner scene (the one de la Luna), in the instrumental intertwinings of the band there is also an indigenous component. In addition to the typically American rocky stoner riffs and dusty psychedelic dilatations, in the fluid structures of the seven tracks of their debut album there are the hot wind sirocco and the sea sand. Watching the red sun setting on our Mediterrean Sea might not be like looking at a twilight among the cacti in the Mojave desert, but Rancho Bizzarro help us bring the two experiences together.
