Komatsu - Recipe for Murder One

Guidare una ruspa con ruote gigantesche e mastodontica pala meccanica capace di sollevare qualsiasi cosa: il sogno di ogni bambino! Un sogno accarezzato anche da molti adulti, magari per schiacciare con i cingoli le macchine in coda nel traffico o per spostare l’auto del vicino di casa parcheggiata davanti al nostro garage. Sicuramente un sogno coltivato da una band di Eindhoven dedita allo stoner rock più massiccio, che si è data proprio il nome di un marchio di ruspe: Komatsu. Con il suo secondo album - Recipe for Murder One - la band olandese si diverte a guidare un automezzo colossale fatto di distorsioni metalliche unte di grasso, estremamente rotonde per quanto compatte. Undici brani in cui la pesantezza dei riff è pari solo al loro groove, come se il caterpillar fosse lanciato alla massima velocità possibile. Non che il quartetto di Eindhoven inventi la ruota (cingolata!), però il loro rock alternativo è divertente e poderoso, con melodie immediate vicine al grunge, riff energici di scuola stoner e mazzate ai limiti dello sludge/post metal. In canzoni come The Sea is Calm Today o Against All Odds si sentono echi dei Torche e del loro riuscito binomio melodia/potenza, e in Lockdown la voce di Nick Oliveri regala quel pizzico di rozzezza che non guasta mai. Un giro su questa ruspa fa ritornare bambini - e sfoga tanti desideri degli adulti. Assolutamente da provare!

Driving a bulldozer with gigantic wheels and mastodontic mechanical shovel capable of lifting anything: the dream of every child! A dream caressed also by many adults, maybe in order to crash with its tracks all the cars queueing in the traffic jam or to move the neighbor's car parked in front of our garage. Certainly a dream cultivated by a band from Eindhoven devoted to the most massive stoner rock, named with a brand of excavators: Komatsu. With its second album - Recipe for Murder One - the Dutch band enjoys itself driving a colossal vehicle made of greasy metal distortions, extremely full as well as compact. Eleven tracks in which the heaviness of the riffs is matched only by their groove, as if the caterpillar was launched at the highest possible speed. Not that the Eindhoven quartet invents the (track!) wheel, yet their alternative rock is entertaining and powerful with grungy instant melodies, dynamic riffs of stoner school and blows on the edeg of sludge/post metal. In songs such as The Sea is Calm Today or Against All Odds, there are echoes of Torche and their successful melody/power couple, and in Lockdown Nick Oliveri's voice gives that pinch of roughness that never fails. A ride on this bulldozer makes you a child again - and it unloads so many adult desires. Absolutely to try!
