L’hard rock di fine anni sessanta / inizio settanta si era lasciato spesso affascinare dalla spiritualità dei grandi spazi del Nord America, e dal mito della libertà rappresentato dal loro attraversamento. Il viaggio interrotto nel corso degli anni 70 è intrapreso nuovamente dai Kyuss, con pesantezza tipicamente metal ed essenzialità da band alternative rock. L’energia primordiale della Terra è celebrata da John Garcia, Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri e Brant Bjork grazie a suoni massicci, annebbiati da accordature ribassate, quasi come se provenissero direttamente dalla sabbia del deserto della California del Sud, come nubi sollevate dal vento. Dilatazioni psichedeliche e stordenti riff rallentati evocano spazi sconfinati, attraversati da strade senza fine, sulle quali la band accelera con esplosioni di energia e groove travolgente. Blues for the Red Sun è una reinterpretazione della musica di Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, MC5 e Black Sabbath, e riporta il rock sulla Route 66, simbolo di una libertà probabilmente perduta.

60s and 70s hard rock was often fascinated by the spirituality of North American great spaces, and by the myth of freedom often represented by their crossing. The interrupted journey is restarted by Kyuss, with their wealth of metal heaviness and alternative rock essentiality. Primordial energy of the Earth is celebrated by John Garcia, Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri and Brant Bjork thanks to massive sounds, fogged by lowered tunings, almost coming directly out of the sand of the southern California desert, as clouds raised by the wind. Psychedelic dilatations and stunning slowed riffs evoke boundless spaces, crossed by endless highways, on which the band accelerates with bursts of energy and overwhelming groove. Blues for the Red Sun is a reinterpretation of Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, MC5 and Black Sabbath music, and it brings rock back on the Route 66, symbol of a probably lost freedom.
