E' una di quelle occasioni semplicemente perfette ed imperdibili. Una delle tue band preferite, che inizia il nuovo tour europeo proprio dalla tua città e dal suo unico locale veramente rock. 

E' anche il primo concerto in assoluto con il nuovo batterista, in sostituzione di JD Shadowz, purtroppo impossibilitato a lasciare gli States per questo tour. E quindi, pur avendoli già visti dal vivo 4 volte nell'arco di poco più di un anno, questo quinto live ha comunque il sapore della novità ed è intriso di aspettative.

Appena saliti sul palco dell'Albatross, i Duel mettono subito in chiaro le cose. Anche stasera spaccheranno. E non ce ne sarà per nessuno. L'attacco è con una tripletta dal primo, stupendo, Fears of the Dead, prima di lasciare spazio alla titletrack del nuovo Witchbanger. Fermi i punti cardine della band, anche Justin Collins alla batteria si dimostra  una carta vincente, con un gran bel tiro e potenza, capaci di compensare l'assenza del membro ufficiale (cosa non scontata, vista la bravura e presenza scenica di JD).

Con una scaletta che pesca praticamente alla pari fra i due album - e li ripropone quasi per intero - la band di Austin snocciola riffs, groove e assoli in quantità, facendo surriscaldare l'atmosfera dell'Albatross e di un pubblico davvero super partecipe e preparatissimo. I pezzi si inseguono in rapida successione, senza momenti morti e sempre con grandissimo tiro. Il picco heavy psych è il gran finale con la bellissima Tigers and Rainbows che sfocia nell'ancor (per me) più stupenda Locked Outside - una di quelle canzoni che sembra fatta appositamente per chiudere i concerti, lasciandoti con la voglia di sentire ancora un altro pezzo (e un altro e un altro!)

Quinta volta che li sento dal vivo in poco più di un anno e mezzo e 2 album che spaccano all'attivo, per confermare i Duel come una grandissima band live - sia su un grande palco blasonato (come il Canyon Stage del Desertfest Antwerp), sia sul palco di un piccolo club come l'Albatross. Chi ancora non li ha sentiti, rimedi assolutamente in una delle prossime imminenti date!

It's one of those just perfect and unmissable events. One of your favorite bands beginning its new European tour right from your city and from its only truly rock venue.

It is also the first ever concert with the new drummer, replacing JD Shadowz, unfortunately unable to leave the States for this tour. And so, despite having already seen them live four times in just over a year, this fifth live still has the flavour of novelty and is imbued with expectations.

As soon as they get on Albatross stage, Duel immediately made it clear that they are going to kick the ass tonight too. The attack is a hat-trick of their first, amazing, album Fears of the Dead, before giving way to the title track of the new Witchbanger. Firm the keystones of the band, Justin Collins on the drum is a winning card, mighty and with great groove, able to balance out the absence of the official drummer (not an obvious thing, given JD's skill and stage presence).

With a setlist fishing almost equally from the two album - and almost in their entirety - the Austin band rattles of groove, riffs and solos in great quantity, thus overheating the atmosphere of Cafè Albatross and its truly super-participant and highly prepared audience. Tracks run one after the other in rapid succession, without dead moments and always with great groove. The heavy psych peak is the grand finale with the beautiful Tigers and Rainbows flowing into the (for me) even more amazing Locked Outside - one of those songs that seems to be specially made to close concerts, leaving you with the desire to listen to another one (and another and another!).

The fifth time I hear them live in just over a year and a half and two killer albums in their discography, to confirm Duel as a great live band - both on a big renowned stage (like the Canyon Stage at Desertfest Antwerp) and on the stage of a small club like Cafè Albatross. Who has still not listened to them live, remedy absolutely in one of the next imminent dates!
