Lasciata alle spalle l'influenza blues degli Scratch Acid, il cantante David Yow e il bassista David Sims incontrano il produttore Steve Albini e il chitarrista Duane Denison, e approdano ad un noise rock dissonante e pervertito. Con un batterista in carne e ossa (McNeilly) al posto della drum machine (usata nell'EP Pure, 1989), i Jesus Lizard compongono un album abrasivo, eccitante per il suo dinamismo ritmico e disturbante per la sua decostruzione melodica. Head è capace di espandersi incredibilmente con le sue canzoni da 2-3 minuti grazie ai riffs e agli arpeggi alienanti di Denison, perfettamente inseriti in una struttura ritmica in costante movimento, ma profondamente allucinata come uno scheletro disarticolato dei Joy Division. Yow vomita nel microfono un nichilismo disperato che non si aspetta di essere compreso in un album che risulterà essere il padre del disagio degli anni '90.

Left behind the blues influence of the noisy and deviated band called Scratch Acid, singer David Yow and bass guitar player David Sims meet the producer Steve Albini and the guitarist Duane Denison, landing to a dissonant and perverted noise rock.  With a real drummer (McNeilly)  and no drum machine (used in EP Pure, 1989) The Jesus Lizard compose an abrasive album, exciting for its rhythmic dynamism and disturbing for its melodic deconstruction. Head can expand itself dramatically with its 2-3 minutes songs, because of alienating Denison arpeggios and riffs, perfectly fitted in a rhythmic structure in constant motion, but deeply hallucinated as a disarticulated Joy Division skeleton. Yow vomits a desperate nihilism that doesn’t expect to be understand, in a album that will be the father of 90’s discomfort.
