Infinite Dissolution potrebbe essere la colonna sonora di un film post apocalittico sperimentale presentato al Sundance Festival. Un film in cui l’essere umano rimane vittima delle sue scelte, a causa della sua incapacità di valutazione delle conseguenze. Dopo aver depredato le risorse naturali del pianeta nel quale è nato, sarà travolto da ciò che ha generato e non ha saputo controllare. Il potere cinematografico della musica dei Locrian ci conduce in un futuro in cui i suoni del ciclo naturale sono soffocati da una cascata di rumori inumani, simili ad una pioggia di frammenti di vetro e circuiti in disfacimento. Nel caotico intreccio di synth, moog, elettronica e chitarre distorte, sopravvive però sempre un nucleo melodico che guida le composizioni fuori dalla tempesta, verso una luce di commovente speranza. Nell’oceano di droni elettrici e scosse elettroniche in cui galleggiamo alla deriva ci sono sia ondate post-black metal (alla Deafheaven) sia salvifiche isole di pace. Quest’ultime (caratterizzate da ambient e post-rock cosmico affine a quello dei Godspeed You! Black Emperor) fungono da salvagente per un’umanità che si fa largo tra strati di rumore con grida strazianti. Il film immaginato dal trio di Chicago non svela se questi barlumi siano solo malinconici miraggi o speranze di un destino diverso. La risposta dipende dalle scelte che decideremo di prendere.

Infinite Dissolution could be the soundtrack of an experimental post-apocalyptic movie in the bill of Sundance Festival. A movie in which human being is victim of his own choices, because of his inability to evaluate their consequences. Completed the plundering of natural resources of the planet in which he was born, he will be swept away by what he generated without being able to control it. The cinematographic power of Locrian music conducts us in a future in which the sounds of the natural cycle are suffocated by a waterfall of inhuman noises, similar to a rain of glass fragments and circuits in ruin. In the chaotic weaving of synths, moog, electronic and distorted guitars, a melodic core survives and guides the compositions outside the storm, towards a light of emotional hope. In the ocean of electric drones and electronic shocks in which we are drifting there are both post-black metal waves (in Deafheaven style) and salvific islands of peace. These ones (characterized by ambient and cosmic post rock similar to Godspeed You! Black Emperor one) act as a life jacket for the humanity that crawls among layers of noise with excruciating screams. The movie imagined by the trio from Chicago does not reveal if these glimmers are only melancholic mirages or hopes of a different destiny. The answer depends on the choices we will decide to make.
