Finalmente riesco a sentire i Mr. Bison che suonano il nuovo album. Una serie di coincidenze sfortunate mi aveva fatto sempre mancare l'appuntamento, ma per fortuna stavolta riesco a non perdermeli. La scaletta è giustamente focalizzata su Holy Oak e questa si dimostra una scelta vincente. Perché se Asteroid è un bell'album, l'ultimo prodotto dei tre Matteo è decisamente un balzo in avanti per ciò che riguarda tanto la composizione quanto l'evoluzione della band stessa. Non solo. Ciò che mi colpisce di più è la resa dei nuovi pezzi dal vivo. Se su disco se ne apprezza la  complessità della costruzione e la commistione stilistica che ha portato a spingere l'acceleratore su sonorità più psych e su soluzioni dal retrogusto settantiano, è dal vivo che le nuove canzoni danno il loro meglio, sprigionando una potenza che nelle registrazioni è rimasta imprigionata nei solchi del vinile. La stessa title-track vibra di un'intensità che su disco è presente, ma come con la sordina. E se la batteria si conferma l'asse portante - e non solo da un punto di vista ritmico - dei Mr. Bison, le due chitarre si rivelano due fucine tanto di groove, quanto di atmosfera. La formula del power trio si dimostra ancora una volta vincente: la band di Cecina l'ha fatta sempre più sua e sul palco ne mostra la maturità tanto nei riff, quanto nell'impatto sonoro, guadagnando in incisività e potenza.

Finally I listen to Mr. Bison playing the new album. A series of unfortunate coincidences had always made me miss the appointment, but luckily this time I succeed in my aim. The setlist is focused on Holy Oak and this proves to be a winning choice. Because if Asteroid is a good album, the last work of the three Matteo is definitely a leap forward for what concerns both the composition and the evolution of the band itself. Not only that. What strikes me the most is how awesome the new songs are when played live. If listening to the record you can appreciate the complexity of the construction and the style mixing that has led to push the accelerator on more psych sounds and solutions with a 70s aftertaste, live the new songs give their best, releasing a power that in the recordings has remained trapped in the grooves of the vinyl. The title-track itself vibrates with an intensity that is present on the record, but as with the mute. And if drums confirm to be Mr. Bison pillar - and not only from a rhythmic point of view -, the two guitars are two forges of both groove and atmosphere. The power trio formula proves once again to be the winning one: the band from Cecina has made it more and more its own and on stage it shows its maturity as much in the riffs as in the sound impact, gaining incisiveness and power.
