Ozzy Osbourne ha seminato innumerevoli figli in giro per il mondo. L’ultimo è nato nel 2016 a Philadelphia e si chiama High Reeper. Ozzy potrà non riconoscerlo, ma non c’è bisogno di un’analisi del DNA per rendersi conto chi sia il vero padre. High Reeper possiede la frenesia tossica dei Black Sabbath di Master of Reality, ma anche l’incedere funereo e lo sguardo oscuro del disco d’esordio della band di Birmingham. Non si sa di preciso chi sia la madre, ma di sicuro doveva avere l’energia e il tiro dello stoner rock californiano e un pizzico di sfrontatezza punk - caratteristiche che rendono il pargolo un’incontenibile fucina di riff divertenti e dal groove travolgente. High Reeper è ancora un bambino e segue fedelmente le orme del padre (e dei vari zii – Pentagram e Saint Vitus in testa), ma la sua fantasia fa presagire ottimi voti alla scuola di proto-metal e retro-rock alla quale è da poco iscritto. Compagno di banco del fratello Beastmaker, High Reeper ha una passione per l’horror rock meno esplicita, ma una più evidente attrazione per rombi di motore e accelerazioni. Sperando che con la crescita la band sviluppi appieno la sua personalità (raccogliendo magari qualche pessimo voto, iniziando a ripudiare i genitori, e gettandosi a capofitto nelle droghe e nelle cattive compagnie), ci godiamo intanto le trascinanti canzoni di questo esordio.

Ozzy Osbourne has got countless children around the world. The last one was born in 2016 in Philadelphia and he is called High Reeper. Ozzy may not recognize it, but there is no need for a DNA analysis to realize who the real father is. High Reeper has got the toxic frenzy of Black Sabbath at the time of Master of Reality, but also the funeral gait and the obscure look of Birmingham band's debut album. We do not know exactly who the mother is, but surely she must have the energy and groove of Californian stoner rock and a pinch of punk effrontery - features making the baby an uncontrollable forge of funny riffs with overwhelming groove. High Reeper is still a child and he faithfully follows in the footsteps of his father (and his various uncles - Pentagram and Saint Vitus above all), but his imagination foreshadows excellent grades in the school of proto-metal and retro-rock to which he has just registered. Deskmate of his brother Beastemaker, High Reeper has got a less explicit passion for horror rock, but a more obvious attraction for motorbike rumbles and accelerations. Hoping that with its growth the band will fully develop its personality (maybe collecting some bad grades, starting to repudiate parents, and attending bad friends), in the meantime we enjoy the enthralling songs of this debut.
