Slomatics ‎– Future Echo Returns

Slomatics ‎– Future Echo Returns
(Black Bow Records, 2016)

Slomatics ‎– Future Echo Returns
(Black Bow Records, 2016)

In a planet where time slows down and force of gravity is so intense that you need all your energies to be able to move, Slomatics are definitely at ease. Their cosmic doom has gigantic sounds, an indescribable heaviness, but also a really "sticky" gumminess. One remains glued to the ground under the weight of distortions and progresses with enormous effort through monolithic rhythms. Two ultra-low-tuned guitars (to the point they seem two basses! - even for the roundness of the sound, manipulated in Conan's Chris Fielding's Skyhammer Studios) grind hypnotic riffs and then open in arpeggiated phrasings on the edge of post rock with the sound of synthesizers accentuating this space atmosphere. In the slow walk through this sci-fi planet, there are clear tracks of (Ufo)mammoths and other prehistoric animals that marked the path of the genre of reference, from Electric Wizard to Sleep, but also some unexpected atmospheres in Type O Negative style, in the closing song of the album. The exploration carried on by the Northern Irish band does not lead to revolutionary discoveries, but a tour on this planet will be fascinating for all enthusiasts of this genre.
