Giöbia – Magnifier

Giöbia – Magnifier
(Sulatron-records, 2015)

(Sulatron-records, 2015)

For psychedelic rock the escape from reality has often been a need induced by the desire to get out of conventional, socially accepted coordinates. And as in all journeys into the unknown, also the lysergic adventure may result in getting lost. Evaporated the bright illusions of the summer of love, many explorers of the dark mysterious side of the psychedelic experience made their appearance. Giöbia fit in this trend with a lysergic space rock album with a sinister magnetism. Although built upon solid rock structures, with its fourth full-lenght the music of the band from Milan is a magnifying glass deforming reality, making it dilated or compresses through floating synths, amplifying space (and time) with waterfalls of echoes and reverbs. Dragged into whirlwinds by Paolo Detrij Basurto bass guitar, Magnifier songs possess a fascinating sense of vertigo. The electronic (almost kraut rock like) touches enhance the stunning effect of this drug. A bewitching as much as disturbing bad trip which proves to be one of the most worthy psychedelic work in recent times.
