Monsternaut – Enter the Storm

La Chevrolet Chevelle che i Monsternaut avevano rubato ai Fu Manchu è stata ora modificata in un pesante camion con rimorchio. L’auto con la quale i tre finlandesi avevano sfrecciato lungo i territori dello stoner più adrenalinico con i due stupendi EP autoprodotti e poi ristampati in unico LP dalla Heavy Psych Sounds nel 2016, è ora un TIR da 20 tonnellate che si muove al rallentatore, e che schiaccia tutto ciò che incontra. Niente più accelerazioni brucianti, né sgommate o testacoda. La libertà di manovra e l’agilità sono drasticamente ridotte in favore di un’andatura possente e decisa che non teme ostacoli. I riff sono sempre pompatissimi grazie al fuzz carico di diesel, ma i gas di scarico sono più densi che mai, di un colore prossimo al nero del doom metal. I Monsternaut hanno preso la patente alla scuola guida di Scott Hill e lo stile di riferimento rimane quello imparato dal biondo chitarrista americano, ma i finlandesi si sono accorti che la capote aperta e gli occhiali da Sole non sono adeguati per tutte le stagioni alle loro latitudini. Si sono dunque attrezzati con un mezzo più solido, forse non il più indicato per portare la tavola da surf in spiaggia o una cassa di birra ad una festa, ma perfetto per fare scorta di legna per l’inverno.

The Chevrolet Chevelle that Monsternaut had stolen from Fu Manchu has now been transformed into a heavy truck with a trailer. The car with which the three Finns had raced along the territories of the most adrenaline stoner with two great self-produced EPs then reissued in a single LP by Heavy Psych Sounds in 2016, is now a 20 tons articulated lorry moving in slow motion and crushing everything it meets on its way. No more burning accelerations, or screeching or spinning out. Freedom of movement and agility are drastically reduced in favour of a strong determined pace that does not fear obstacles. Riffs are still ultra-pumped up thanks to a fuzz full of diesel, but the exhaust gas is denser than ever, its colour close to the black of doom metal. Monsternaut took their driving license at Scott Hill's driving school and the style of reference remains the one learned by the blond American guitarist, but the Finns have realized that open folding hood and sunglasses are not suitable for all seasons at their latitudes. Therefore they equipped with a more solid vehicle, perhaps not the most suitable to bring the surf board to the beach or a beer crate to a party, but perfect for storing wood for the winter.
