Cogliere l’attimo. Cristallizzare quell’istante di ispirazione irripetibile e assolutamente unica che può scaturire solo dall’improvvisazione libera. Fotografare la vita mentre scorre, e non dopo averla obbligata a mettersi in posa. Questo è ciò che una registrazione di musica psichedelica dovrebbe riuscire a ottenere. E questo è ciò che i Les Lekin riescono a fotografare con il loro secondo album, Died with Fear. Una musica in continuo movimento e trasformazione, nata da jam sessions, difficile da immaginare racchiusa nello spazio di un disco, ma della quale il trio austriaco riesce ad offrirci un fermo immagine splendidamente a fuoco e centrato. La chitarra sa dove piazzare i soggetti (i fraseggi melodici) all’interno della cornice fotografica, forse per una recondita sensibilità progressiva. Ma se in band affini come i Monkey 3 la componente razionale della composizione è predominante, nei Les Lekin tutto appare così fluido e naturale da ricondurre la musica della band a quella capacità di saper congelare l’ispirazione nell’istante in cui questa prende vita, modellandola e rielaborandola in un secondo tempo, certo, ma mai cercando di costruirla a posteriori. Died with Fear è un disco acquatico, che alterna delicata risacca a tempeste oceaniche, talvolta nebulizzandosi come le onde che impattano sulla scogliera. Inafferrabile e, proprio per questo, meravigliosamente vivo.

Seize the day. Crystallize that moment of unrepeatable and absolutely unique inspiration that can only spring from free improvisation. Photographing life as it flows, and not after having forced it to pose. This is what a recording of psychedelic music should be able to achieve. And this is what Les Lekin photograph with their second album, Died with Fear. Music in continuous movement and transformation, born from jam sessions, hard to imagine enclosed in the space of a record: yet the Austrian trio succeeds in offering us a splendidly focused and centered still image of it. Guitar knows where to place subjects (namely melodic phrasings) inside the photographic frame, perhaps for a recondite progressive sensitivity. But if in similar bands like Monkey 3 the rational element of composition is predominant, in Les Lekin everything appears so fluid and natural that it brings back band's music to that ability to freeze the inspiration at the moment when it comes to life, modeling it and reworking it later, of course, but never trying to build it afterwards. Died with Fear is an aquatic album, which alternates delicate undertow with ocean storms, sometimes nebulising itself like waves impacting the cliff. Elusive and, precisely for this reason, wonderfully alive.
