Ohhms - Cold

Chi ha assistito ad un loro concerto ha ben chiara la capacità degli Ohhms di far salire la tensione in maniera graduale, ma inesorabile, fino al punto di esplosione. E' in quel preciso istante che il bassista inizia a dimenarsi come una scheggia impazzita, e il cantante sembra risvegliarsi dai suoi ondeggiamenti ossessivi e allucinati. Le distorsioni massicce di un post metal fangoso travolgono tutto ciò che trovano sulla loro strada, e nel magma rumoroso la band gioca con l’energia, trattenendola e rilasciandola nel momento esatto in cui questa è matura. Mentre cantante e bassista assecondano i loro "deliri", il batterista e i due chitarristi mantengono la musica compatta, facendola marciare lungo traiettorie precise. Attraverso uno straordinario utilizzo delle dinamiche la band inglese amplifica i suoi climax: talvolta con arpeggi post rock dall’influsso psichedelico, talvolta con assoli di chitarra più classicamente rock, fino alla liberazione di una visceralità tipicamente hardcore. Se dal vivo la potenza della band è assolutamente dirompente, anche su disco l’impatto è innegabile. Con il secondo Ep - Cold -  la band di Canterbury prosegue il cammino intrapreso con Bloom, con una maturità ancora superiore. In poco più di mezzora il gruppo concepisce un flusso sonoro dal sapore progressivo (la città di origine non mente!) in cui convivono diversi elementi in modo del tutto naturale: impeto e pesantezza, ma anche ricercatezza e spiritualità.

Everyone who attended one of their concerts well knows Ohhms ability to gradually, yet inexorably, raise up tension until the point of explosion. It is at that precise moment that the bassist starts to squirm

as a loose cannon, and the singer seems to awaken from its obsessive and hallucinated waverings. The massive distortions of a muddy post metal overwhelm everything they find on their way, and in noisy magma the band plays with energy, holding and releasing it at the exact time when it is ripe. While singer and bassist indulge their frenzy, the drummer and the two guitarists maintain the music compact, letting it march along precise trajectories. Through an extraordinary use of dynamics the British band amplifies its moments of climax: sometimes with psychedelic post-rock-tasted arpeggios, sometimes with more classically rock guitar solos, until a typically hardcore visceral release. If in live shows the band's power is absolutely disruptive, even in recordings the impact is undeniable. With the second EP - Cold - the band from Canterbury continues the path undertaken with Bloom, yet with an even higher maturity. In just over half an hour, the band conceives a sound stream with progressive flavor (the city of origin left its mark!) in which different elements live together in an extremely natural way: impetus and heaviness, but also refinement and spirituality.
