Gli Hexvessel sono morti. Il loro trapasso è in realtà una rigenerazione, e si chiama When We Are Death. La nuova incarnazione della band finlandese, giunta al terzo full lenght, affonda sì le sue radici nell’humus del folk notturno del passato, proiettando però le sue foglie verso altre direzioni, alla ricerca di una luce spirituale che richiama la psichedelia americana di fine anni 60, con qualche accenno agli Anathema romantici del presente. D’altra parte per Mat Mc Nerney la vita artistica è continua rigenerazione (basti pensare alle trasformazioni che ha attraversato la sua carriera, dall’avantgarde black metal dei Dødheimsgard al post punk dei Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures). Questa volta il musicista inglese, approdato alcuni anni fa nelle foreste finlandesi per creare gli Hexvessel, rende esplicita la sua filosofia di morte e rinascita, in un ciclo naturale che tutto connette e interrelaziona. When We Are Death è un disco di delicato e malinconico rock psichedelico, in cui si respira il mistero e la meraviglia di chi si trova di fronte all’imprevisto, ma inevitabile, cambiamento. Per tutti coloro che pensano che le trasformazioni radicali siano linfa vitale.

Hexvessel are dead. Yet their passing is a regeneration and its name is When We Are Death. Reached the third full lenght, the new incarnation of the Finnish band is rooted in the humus of night folk of the past, yet it projects its own leaves towards different directions, in search of a spiritual light recalling the late 60s American psychedelia, with some hints of current romantic Anathema. After all, Mat Mc Nerney's artistic life is a continuous regeneration (just think about the many transformations during his career, from Dødheimsgard avantgarde black metal to Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures post punk). Landed some years ago into the Finnish forests to create Hexvessel, this time the English musician makes explicit his own philosophy of death and rebirth, placed in a natural cycle which connects and interrelates everything. When We Are Death is delicate, melancholic psychedelic rock. Listening to this album you breath the mystery and wonder of those who face the unexpected, yet unavoidable, change. For all those who think that radical changes are lifeblood.
