Mai come negli ultimi anni il ruolo della donna era stato così centrale nel mondo del rock. Spodestati i colleghi maschi dal centro del palcoscenico, sono diventate principali attrici della rinascita del rock "classico" attualmente in atto. Una delle regine più carismatiche di questa nuova ondata è la svedese Elin Larsson, la cui caldissima voce guida la musica dei Blues Pills. Lady in Gold (secondo album della band) si sviluppa lungo le sinuose melodie delle corde vocali della Larsson, le quali possiedono la potenza e la profondità generalmente associate ad una cantante nera afroamericana, anziché ad una bionda svedese. Se a questa evidente componente soul - perfettamente inserita nella matrice blues/hard rock della band - si aggiunge la sensibilità luminosa e piena di energia vitale della Larsson, si comprende subito quanto i Blues Pills si distacchino dalla schiera di band retro rock guidate dal gentil sesso, spesso legate al lato umbratile e misterioso dell'hard rock settantiano e poco inclini a giocare con i chiaroscuri. Proprio l'ambigua miscela di luce e tenebra, invece, rende Lady in Gold un disco incredibilmente affascinante. Nostra signora della luce, al potere!

Never as in recent years the role of women had been so central in the rock world. Dethroned the male colleagues from the center of the stage, they have become the main actresses of the rebirth of "classic" rock currently underway. One of the most charismatic queens of this new wave is the Swedish Elin Larsson, whose voice guides the music of the Blues Pills. Lady in Gold (second album of the band) develops along the sinuous melodies of Larsson vocal chords, which have the power and depth usually associated with an African American black singer rather than to a Swedish blonde. Add Larsson bright sensitivity and vital energy to this evident soul music component - perfectly inserted in the blues/hard rock matrix of the band - and it will be immediately clear how much Blues Pills detach from the swarm of retro rock band captained by women, too often linked to the shadowy and mysterious side of seventies hard rock and little inclined to play with light and shade. Precisely the ambiguous mixture of light and darkness, indeed, makes Lady in Gold an incredibly fascinating album. Our Lady of light, rise to power!
