In una sorta di alpha-omega - che è al tempo stesso cerchio e spirale - nello spazio-tempo compreso fra Underestimating The Consequences Of Effective Propaganda (Part I) e Underestimating The Consequences... (Part II), si muove e vive questo nuovo album dei gallesi Spider Kitten. In uno scenario retro-futuribile, sospesi in un non-tempo e nel non-luogo per eccellenza - il deserto -, la componente space e psichedelica del combo capitanato da Chi Lameo prende il sopravvento su ogni cosa e dilata suoni, ritmiche e melodie. Ark of Octofelis si rivela quindi una sorta di sorpresa per tutti quelli che considerano gli Spider Kitten come "band doom del Galles". Infatti soltanto in un paio di pezzi - in particolare One From The Heart - chitarre e distorsioni si appesantiscono, inserendosi nei canoni del genere. Per il resto, tutto ruota attorno al concept di questo album (le macchinazioni - di potere?! - di una band psichedelica attorno ad un culto/non-culto che ruota attorno alla musica in uno spazio/tempo fittizio e "siderale"), a partire dal quasi ipnotico e iper-dilatato mantra di Feline Will, per poi mostrare tutte le sue molteplici facce nell'articolato side two. Punto di forza di Chi Lameo e soci è senz'altro il cantato: sdoppiato, allucinato, dalle melodie torte e al tempo stesso estremamente catchy (alla Alice In Chains maniera), con armonizzazioni davvero sempre perfette (e che anche dal vivo mantengono inalterato il loro fascino, la loro bellezza). Ark of Octofelis è un gran viaggio psichedelico, e in quanto tale richiede la giusta predisposizione e il giusto tempo: prendetevelo tutto, entrate nel loop di questa suite lunga 46', rimaneteci invischiati dentro, e così assaporerete la bellezza del pianeta Octofelis e del culto dello Spider Kitten.

Welsh Spider Kitten new album lives in a sort of alpha-omega - that is at once circle and spiral - in the space-time between Underestimating The Consequences Of Effective Propaganda (Part I) and Underestimating The Consequences...(Part II). In a retro-futuristic scenario, suspended in a non-time and in a non-place par excellence - the desert -, the space psychedelic part of the combo captained by Chi Lameo takes over everything and dilates sounds, rhythms and melodies. Therefore Ark of Octofelis becomes some kind of surprise for all those who consider Spider Kitten as a "Welsh doom band". Indeed only in a couple of songs - in particular One From The Heart - guitars and distortions become heavier, fitting in the canons of the genre. Apart from this, everything is focused on the concept of this album (the - power?! - machinations of a psychedelic band around a cult/non-cult revolving around music in a "sidereal" artificial space-time), starting from the almost hypnotic, hyper-dilated Feline Will mantra, then showing all its many sides in the multifaceted side two. Vocals are certainly Chi Lameo & co. strength and added value: doubled, hallucinated, with crooked and at the same time extremely catchy (à la Alice In Chains) melodies, with really always perfect harmonizations (maintaining intact their charm and beauty also in live shows). Ark of Octofelis is a great psychedelic trip, and as such it requires the right aptitude and the right time. Take all the time you need, get into the loop of this 46-minutes-long suite and get stucked inside it: so you will taste the beauty of the planet Octofelis and the cult of The Spider Kitten.
