Soppiantare gli ideali e le attitudini degli anni '80 per trasportare il rock settantiano nella modernità: forse questo è il più grande successo del movimento grunge. Superunknown rappresenta l'indiscutibile picco di questa ricerca, grazie alla sua capacità di rigenerare un'era che sembrava evaporata via. La personalità dei Soundgarden è così colossale che niente suona nostalgico nonostante le evidenti influenze. La psichedelia è reinventata attraverso le disorientati scale a chiocciola di The Day I Tried to Live, così come l'hard rock è capovolto dalla tempesta ritmica di Spoonman. Ancor più complesso, profondo e sfaccettato del suo meraviglioso predecessore, Superunknown piega la pesantezza al livello massimo di flessibilità psichedelica, e le abilità progressive fino ad apparentemente irraggiungibili ganci melodici. Un disco che merita di essere considerato tanto leggendario quanto le sue fonti di ispirazione.

Superunknown represents the indisputable peak of this research, thanks to its ability to regenerate an era that seemed to be evaporated away. Soundgarden personality is so colossal that nothing sounds nostalgic despite the obvious influences. Psychedelia is reinvented through the confusing spiral staircase of The Day I Tried to Live, as much as hard rock is capsized by the rhythmic storm of Spoonman. More complex, deep and multifaceted than its wonderful predecessor, Superunknown bends heaviness to the highest point of psychedelic flexibility, and progressive skills to the apparently unattainable melodic hooks. Worth to be considered as much legendary as its sources of inspiration.
